Welcome to your boutique sanctuary beside the canal.

Embarking on your Pilates journey is a beautiful step toward balance, and we are here to make your first experience at Lock and Flow completely seamless. Our boutique reformer and mat studio is located in a tranquil, rural canal-side setting, offering a peaceful retreat from the everyday hustle. This guide is designed to help you feel prepared, confident, and excited to join our community before you even book your first class.

What to Expect During Your First Visit

We focus on making your introduction to Pilates as relaxing and clear as possible, ensuring you feel supported from the moment you step through our doors.

  • Location: Please input Lock and Flow Studio into the search box on Google Maps. The postcode covers a large area and if you input that you may drive past the entrance. The studio is part of a new development on Moorside Lane, Woodplumpton. If you are travelling from the Woodplumpton/Broughton side, it is located on your left approximately 30 metres past the canal bridge where Woodplumpton Road changes to Moorside Lane. If approaching from the Catforth/Eaves side, it is located approximately 30 metres before the canal bridge on your right hand side. Look for signs at the entrance that say Bellfold Court, and J. Waring and Sons Ltd. Once you enter the new development drive towards unit 8, which is on the far left.
  • A Warm Welcome: Arrival is stress-free with easy parking. Please use the spaces immediately outside Unit 8 and aim to arrive no more than 10 minutes before the class start time. The studio is accessed through the main door, then immediately up the stairs on your left. Once on the first floor, you will find a friendly instructor waiting to help you check in and get ready for the class.
  • Personalised Setup: Before we begin, your instructor will introduce you to your equipment and ensure you feel comfortable and confident in your space.
  • A Mindful Pace: Our classes move at a supportive speed, using simple language to guide you through each exercise without technical jargon.
  • Options for Everyone: We provide clear modifications for every exercise, allowing you to move in a way that feels safe and right for your body.

Understanding Pilates Classes

Whether you choose the support of the reformer or the challenge of the mat, our classes are designed to meet you exactly where you are today.

  • Reformer vs. Mat: Reformer Pilates uses a spring-loaded carriage to provide resistance and support, aiding alignment and strength. Mat Pilates focuses on bodyweight control and core stability, making it an excellent foundation for mindful movement.
  • Beginner: The foundations of your reformer Pilates practice. This is the perfect starting point for newcomers to feel safe and supported.
  • Flow: Begin to explore some different sequences on the reformer that will help you build confidence and improve your control of the carriage.
  • Core: A faster paced class that balances strength and flexibility through addition of more layers in the sequences and rhythmic transitions. Ideal for those looking to build consistent confidence in their practice.
  • Signature: Our stronger, more challenging option. This session is designed for those ready to deepen their stamina and explore more advanced movement patterns.

FAQs for Newcomers

I’m new to Pilates—can I still join?

Of course. Our studio is a restorative space for all. We recommend our 'New to Reformer', or 'Beginner' classes for your first few visits, as they focus on fundamental principles and equipment setup in a supportive, gentle environment.

What if I have an injury or I’m pregnant?

Your safety is our priority. Please let your instructor know about any health considerations before the session begins; we provide clear, personalised modifications to ensure you move comfortably at every stage.

What should I wear for my first visit?

Select flexible sports wear that allows you to move freely. For stability, hygiene and comfort on our reformers, grip socks are mandatory. Either bring your own or add on to your booking for collection in our studio.

What if I’m running late or need to cancel?

To keep our studio a tranquil sanctuary, we ask for 24 hours' notice for cancellations. If you are slightly delayed, please join quietly; however, however arrivals more than 10 minutes past the start time are at the discretion of the instructor.

Do I need to be flexible or fit to join?

Not at all. Pilates is the process of becoming more flexible and strong. Our small classes ensure you receive the boutique attention needed to find balance and move at your own pace.

How do I book my first class?

Booking is simple through our website or our dedicated studio app. We recommend using the App for live availability. Simply choose a date that fits your lifestyle, fill out the booking form and make your payment.
